NEW YORK, USA — Considered one of the major signs of the End Times in the Islamic world, the Dajjal (Antichrist) appears in dream interpretation as a potent symbol of fear, chaos, and deception. Islamic scholars interpret seeing the Dajjal or witnessing his emergence in a dream as a harbinger of severe negativity, pointing to bloodshed, the spread of corruption (fitna and fasad), and enemy aggression.
Dream interpreters warn that this vision suggests the dreamer or their society may face a significant spiritual and worldly trial. The Dajjal is viewed not merely as a person but as the embodiment of lies, trickery, and deviation from the truth.
Ibn Sirin: The Misguiding Deceiver
Ibn Sirin, a cornerstone of Islamic dream interpretation, defines the Dajjal directly as "a bad person who leads people astray." According to his readings, this dream signifies a person who:
-
Has a tongue that does not match their heart (hypocrisy).
-
Is two-faced and possesses a munafiq (hypocritical) character.
-
Leads people away from the righteous path with malicious intent.
Kirmani: Localized Corruption
Kirmani draws attention to the specific location where the Dajjal appears in the dream. If the Dajjal is seen in a particular place, it indicates:
-
A great sedition (fitna) will break out in that region.
-
Liars, deceivers, and evil people will gather in that place.
-
There will be no goodness or blessing (barakah) in the actions undertaken by that group.
Nablusi: Conflict and Calamity
Nablusi provides a multifaceted and deep analysis of the Dajjal dream. According to his interpretations, the emergence of the Dajjal signifies:
-
Attacks by enemies and bloodshed on earth.
-
The emergence of widespread sedition and corruption.
-
Highway robbery or the blocking of the path for travelers.
However, Nablusi notes that in some contexts, this dream can also signify "the conquest of a city of disbelievers." Seeing the Dajjal is also linked to magic and lies. For someone who sees themselves befriending the Dajjal, it portends great disaster and trouble.
Furthermore, Nablusi states that wherever the Dajjal passes or visits in a dream, that place will experience sorrow, grief, violence, and oppression. It also warns of major disasters affecting crops and property, or the withholding of goodness due to drought.
Ihya and Diyanet Interpretations
According to Ihya sources, the Dajjal points to a liar, a magician, or someone who uses every trick to gain leadership. Seeing the Dajjal emerge is interpreted as rampant people going to extremes in disbelief and the spread of fitna. However, Ihya also brings a message of hope, suggesting that after this chaos, absolute victory for Muslims will follow.
In Diyanet interpretations, the Dajjal is defined as "enemy attack, bloodshed, and troublemaking." It warns that gossip will increase in the dreamer's home, fitna and separation will occur within the family, and the dreamer themselves may be behaving as a deceitful and lying person.
