The Guiding Power of Dreams

In Islamic tradition, dreams are not only reflections of the subconscious but also regarded as spiritual signs and guidance. For centuries, people have turned to their dreams to seek answers, discover hidden truths, or find solutions to personal problems. Classical sources provide specific prayers and practices said to help believers witness solutions to their concerns through dreams.

Reciting Specific Chapters and Verses

According to Islamic narrations, a person wishing to see the solution to a problem in their dream should recite Surah Shams, Surah Duha, Surah Tin, Surah Qadr, and Surah Kafirun, along with verse 110 of Surah Al-Kahf, each three times. Afterwards, they should send blessings (salawat) upon the Prophet Muhammad and his family seven times, say “Bismillahirrahmanirrahim” three times, and lie down facing the qibla in clean garments and in a state of purity. The accompanying prayer asks God to reveal the solution to their concern in the dream.

The Fourteenth Night Practice

Another narration suggests that if a person wants to see their wish fulfilled in a dream, they should, on the fourteenth night of the lunar month, purify themselves, write the verse “Thus did We show Abraham the dominion of the heavens and the earth so that he might be of those with sure faith” (Qur’an 6:75) on their palm, place that hand under their head, and sleep facing the qibla. Tradition holds that, with God’s permission, the desired matter will be shown in the dream.

A Special Prayer Repeated Twenty-Five Times

Additionally, it is narrated that one who wishes to see a specific matter in a dream should, while in a state of purity and facing the qibla, recite a special prayer twenty-five times, invoking God’s eternal greatness, unity, and the honor of the Prophet Muhammad and his family. Within this prayer, the supplicant should replace the phrase “such and such” with the personal wish or desired vision. Narrations promise that by God’s will, the matter will appear in their dream.

Faith, Consolation, and the Psychology of Dreams

For believers, these practices are not merely rituals but also a source of inner peace and hope. While modern psychologists often interpret such methods as ways of directing the subconscious, for the faithful, the dream remains a divine sign, a spiritual gift, and a reminder of God’s care for His servants.
