Dreams as a Source of Guidance
In Islamic tradition, dreams are not merely reflections of the subconscious but are often seen as divine messages that can reveal hidden truths. According to historical accounts, with sincere intention and proper spiritual preparation, a person may witness in their dreams the whereabouts of a lost object or the condition of a missing person.
The Seven Surahs Practice
Those who wish to discover something lost or seek fulfillment of a heartfelt desire are guided by centuries-old teachings:
-
One should first put on clean clothes, perform ablution, and lie down on the right side facing the Qibla.
-
Then, recite seven times each of the following Surahs: Al-Fatiha, Ash-Shams, Ad-Duha, Al-Layl, Ash-Sharh, At-Tin, and Al-Ikhlas.
-
Afterward, the following supplication is recited:
اللّهُمَّ أَرِني في مَنامي كَذا وَ كَذا مِنْ أَمْري فَرَجاً وَ مَخْرَجاً اللّهُمَّ أَرِني في مَنامي ما اسْتَدَلَّ بِهِ إِجابَةَ دَعْوَتي
(Translation: “O Allah, show me in my dream such and such; a relief, a way out, and a sign of my prayer being answered.”)
Here, “such and such” should be replaced with the person’s specific request. If the dream does not appear on the first night, the practice is to be repeated for seven consecutive nights.
The Testimony of Ahund Alaaddin Muhammad
It is narrated from Ahund Alaaddin Muhammad that if someone loses an item, they should take ablution before sleeping, face the Qibla, and recite “Ya Dalil al-Mutahayyirin” (O Guide of the Perplexed!) 311 times. Without speaking to anyone afterward, they should immediately sleep. In the dream, they will be shown the location of the lost item. This method has been said to work repeatedly and has been confirmed by many accounts.
The Spiritual Meaning of These Practices
Such dream practices highlight how Islamic culture views dreams not only as personal psychological experiences but also as spiritual pathways to divine signs. Beyond retrieving lost items, these methods deepen one’s spiritual awareness, reminding believers of the sacred connection between prayer, faith, and dreams.
