Dreaming of a wedding feast: Islamic scholars explain the meaning
Dreaming of a wedding may point to joy, relief, sorrow or warning, depending on whether the ceremony is calm, noisy, musical or includes a feast.

ISTANBUL, Türkiye — Dreaming of a wedding is interpreted in different ways by Islamic scholars, with the meaning changing according to the atmosphere, the presence of music, food, noise or simplicity.
In classical Islamic dream interpretation, a wedding is not read through one meaning only. A calm and modest wedding may indicate goodness, blessing and relief, while a noisy wedding with music, dancing or disorder may point to sorrow, hardship or a warning.
A calm wedding points to goodness and relief
According to several Islamic dream interpretation sources, seeing a simple wedding without alcohol, music, excessive entertainment or disorder is generally interpreted positively.
In this view, a calm wedding ceremony may symbolize goodness, blessing, relief, happiness and peace. The meaning becomes more favorable when the wedding is modest, quiet and free from elements associated with heedlessness or excess.
This interpretation is especially emphasized in the accounts attributed to Diyanet and Seyyid Süleyman. Both sources distinguish between a peaceful ceremony and a noisy, disorderly celebration.
Diyanet: A simple wedding is good, but a noisy one is not
According to Diyanet’s interpretation, seeing a plain wedding ceremony without alcohol, instruments or excessive entertainment is a sign of goodness, blessing, relief and joy.
However, the same source gives a different meaning when the wedding contains alcohol, music, noise or commotion. Such a dream is not regarded as a good sign. If dancing is also present at the wedding, the interpretation becomes more serious and may point to misfortune or hardship.
This distinction shows that the condition of the ceremony is central to the meaning of the dream. The wedding itself is not always positive or negative; rather, its details determine the interpretation.
Ihya: Eating at a wedding may mean sorrow will pass
According to Ihya, being present at a wedding and eating from the meal served there may indicate that sorrow and grief will come to an end.
The same source interprets giving a wedding feast as taking responsibility for people’s affairs. In this sense, the dream may point not only to personal relief but also to a social duty, leadership role or public responsibility.
A person who organizes a wedding meal in a dream may therefore be seen as someone who will serve others, carry people’s burdens or become involved in matters that concern a wider community.
Nabulsi: A wedding feast may bring relief or responsibility
Nabulsi gives one of the most detailed interpretations of the wedding feast. According to him, if a person attends a wedding meal in a dream or personally organizes such a feast, it may mean the removal of sorrow and grief.
Nabulsi also connects this dream with rank, position and public attention. The person may reach a station or responsibility where people turn to him collectively for help, judgment or guidance.
At the same time, Nabulsi adds a cautionary note. A wedding feast may sometimes be interpreted as sorrow, grief or being hurt by hand or tongue. This means the dream can also point to emotional injury, verbal harm or distress depending on the wider context of the dream.
Seyyid Süleyman: Music and dancing change the meaning
Seyyid Süleyman states that seeing a wedding far from entertainment, musical instruments and disorder is a sign of goodness, blessing, relief and joy.
By contrast, a wedding with alcohol, noise and commotion is not considered favorable. If dancing is present, the dream is interpreted as pointing to misfortune.
This interpretation is close to Diyanet’s explanation and reflects a common principle in traditional dream interpretation: the quieter and more modest the wedding, the more positive the sign; the more disorderly and excessive the ceremony, the heavier the warning.
Ebu Said al-Waaz: The wedding owner and the guest differ
Ebu Said al-Waaz makes an important distinction between the person who owns the wedding and the person who attends it as a guest.
According to his view, seeing a wedding may indicate hardship for the wedding owner. In other words, the person for whom the wedding is being held may face a difficult matter.
However, if there is no food at the wedding and the dreamer is only an invited guest, the dream may indicate joy and relief. This distinction shows why the role of the dreamer matters. Being the host, the subject of the wedding or merely a guest may change the meaning.
Kirmani: Being assigned wedding duties carries a warning
Kirmani gives a more serious interpretation. According to him, a person who sees himself assigned to the affairs of a wedding may face death, and some relatives may attend his funeral.
Kirmani also states that seeing a wedding in the house of a sick person may indicate the death of that patient. This is one of the heavier interpretations in the classical sources and applies especially when illness is already part of the dream’s setting.
For this reason, the place of the wedding is also important. A wedding seen in a sick person’s home is not interpreted in the same way as a calm and modest wedding seen in an ordinary setting.
Ibn Kathir: A wedding may be interpreted as a funeral
Ibn Kathir is among the scholars who interpret a wedding in a dream as a sign connected with a funeral.
According to the transmitted interpretation, a person who sees his own wedding may soon witness a funeral ceremony. If someone sees that he is marrying off his son and that the wedding includes music or similar elements, the dream may indicate being present at the son’s funeral, with many people crying.
Ibn Kathir also states that a person who eats at a wedding to which he was invited may be interpreted as eating from food prepared after a death. This again shows the strong link some classical sources make between wedding imagery and funeral symbolism.
General meaning of seeing a wedding in a dream
The general interpretation of seeing a wedding in a dream depends heavily on the details.
A simple, modest and quiet wedding is usually interpreted as a sign of blessing, joy, relief and peace. A wedding with alcohol, music, dancing, loud noise or disorder is often seen as a warning of grief, hardship or misfortune.
A wedding feast may indicate that sorrow will pass, but it may also point to public responsibility, leadership, people turning to the dreamer for help, or being hurt by words or actions.
For this reason, the dream should be interpreted by considering several details together: Was the wedding calm or noisy? Was there music or dancing? Was food served? Was the dreamer the host, the bride or groom, a family member, or only a guest? Was the wedding seen in the house of a sick person?
In Islamic dream interpretation, these details shape the final meaning. The same wedding symbol may therefore represent joy and relief in one dream, but sorrow or warning in another.
